OPEN CALL FOR FLACC, Bilingual Stage Manager for FLACC 2023

FLACC seeks a Stage Manager (SM) to join our team for the 10th Annual Festival of Latin American Contemporary Choreographers: FLACC: 2023 Cuatro Vientos at Dance Mission Theater Oct. 23-29. The SM will work directly with the Artistic Director, Production Manager, and venue Technical Director to create a safe and positive experience for all participating performers, moderators and interpreters. During tech rehearsals and FLACC performances, the SM will document cues and serve as the primary liaison between venue technical staff, the Production Manager, interpreters and performing artists to communicate stage calls and ensure that the technical rehearsals and performances run smoothly. SM applicants should be conversationally bilingual (English/Spanish).

Work Period: Oct. 8 - Oct. 30
Stage Manager shall attend all technical rehearsals, production meetings, load in, load out, and performances as may be scheduled by the Production Manager and/or the Producer and/or the Director. In addition, Stage Manager shall be available for all consultations and meetings with the Producer and/or the Director and/or the Technical Crew as needed.
The Stage Manager MUST be available to work on the following dates:
~ 4-8 hours of administrative work & meetings leading up to the festival (dates/times TBD)
OCT 23 - OCT 29: Week of Festival
OCT 23: load in Monday 10-2pm
Oct. 24: 10am-4pm Tues
Oct. 25: 10am-4pm Wed
Oct. 26: 10am-10pm Th (with breaks)
Oct. 27: 5pm-11pm Show
Oct. 28: 3pm-11pm Shows
Oct. 29: 3pm-8pm Show
Oct. 30 Debrief meeting with organizers
Stage Manager reports to the FLACC Production Manager.
Stage Manager’s duties shall consist of:
Total Hours: ~ Approximately 45 hours
Compensation: $35-45/hr. D.O.E.
The FLACC Stage Manager is a part-time, independent contractor position.

FLACC is an annual showcase that celebrates the diverse heritages and innovations of Chicana/o/x/, Latina/o/x and Indigenous choreographers. ¡FLACC! creates a platform to connect and strengthen our communities through multi-media dance performance locally and internationally. Departing from traditional and folkloric dance forms that typically represent Latino constituencies, FLACC’s culturally nuanced, hybridized and politically charged dance genre brings a refreshing perspective to the contemporary dance sector, igniting conversations with dance-theater enthusiasts and Latina/o/xs internationally.

Stage Manager reports to the FLACC Production Manager.
Stage Manager’s duties shall consist of:
- Spanish translation between performers and lighting designer during tech rehearsal for international artists.
- Establish a welcoming environment and field questions from all artists regarding the venue.
- Manage scene changes and track all settings of props. The SM is responsible for ensuring that all props and set dressings are in their proper places during performances.
- Provide call times for performers and cue performers to stage during performances.
- Communicate regarding performance start times with on-site house managers (i.e. we will need to hold 5 minutes, etc.)
- Serve as the main point of contact for volunteers for tech rehearsals, performance set up/strike, and reception.
- Advocate for performer needs while honoring the venue’s safety and facility rules (i.e. protecting the Marley dance floor, theater equipment or theater furniture). Use good judgment and assist as needed to solve production needs, maintain Producer’s vision, and respect Theater Venue’s equipment and technical staff;
- Be conscious of performer, crew, Venue and Producer’s preferred pronouns as well as disability access needs , and be respectful of everyone’s preferences to ensure a welcoming environment throughout the production.
- Pick up the gaps of communication and facilitation between Theater Venue’s technical staff and performers and/or Producer to ensure timeliness, efficiency, and everyone’s humanness and wellbeing.
- Read FLACC policy material and Accessibility Allyship, contracts and documents.
